Bathing with Dewdrops

This Syrphid Fly is using dewdrops to wash itself – note the dewdrop in one of its hind feet. I observed it doing this “bathing” for quite awhile as it lightly stood on the foxtail seedhead. Syrphid flies mimic the appearance of bees, but they have no stinger. They are ‘beneficial insects’ because they’re good pollinators and their young prey on insect pests.
