Male Prairie Lizard

Called “northern fence lizard” in the past, has now been designated as its own species, S. consobrinus, the Prairie Lizard.
Lizards are harmless reptiles that eat insects and spiders. I like having them in my organic garden. Males have lovely blue colors on their undersides, which show especially well when they’re courting. I have witnessed them climbing up my pole beans to eat insect pests — hooray for lizards!
