Prescribed Burn

Safe and effective prescribed burning should be done with knowledge of how fire moves in relation to air flow direction, strength and gusts of winds, humidity, temperature and much more.
We attended workshops, read, studied weather patterns on our own property, talked extensively with a wonderful private lands contractor, and asked this man and another friend who had burning experience to join us for our first several burns.
Our latest burn in 2014 was in a well established native field we had not burned previously. It was a good year for moisture — the burn and the rains brought more healthy grasses and forbs than we had hoped. The flowers were beautiful and the seeds from forbs such as round-headed lespedeza were prolific. Deer, turkey, songbirds and even our low population of quail enjoyed this field more than ever.
