Spicebush Swallowtail on Crimson Clover

Note Card

Spicebush Swallowtails (Papilla troilus) are excellent pollinators. This one is enjoying sweet Crimson Clover blossoms in early spring. Favorite caterpillar host plants are native Spicebush, Sassafras and Bay. These large butterflies are uniquely beautiful.
I could smell this clover’s fragrance while watching countless native bees, honeybees and butterflies that love a field of blossoms full of nectar.
